2006 - Canadian Go Festival

Edmonton, Alberta, Sept 1-4, 2006

Self Pairing Event

Schedule: Games can be played any day, any time during the tournament. All games must be completed by 2pm on Sunday September 3.

Registration: There is no registration for this event. However, you must register each game and both players must agree before the game is played that it will count in the event. All recorded games will be officially processed by the CGA rating system (new).

Format: Handicap and time limit to be decided by the players. Clocks should be used.

Eligibility: none

Minimum Time Limit: 30 min./player + byo yomi. If players agree then a longer time can be used. Komi is 6.5 points if no handicap

Handicap selection: Check the rating of each player and subtract the difference. Select the closest handicap appropriate based on 100 points of rating difference is equal to 1 handicap stone. This is not a hard and fast rule as long as both players agree on the handicap. The handicap cannot be a fraction (eg. ½ stone).

Prizes: certificates.

Improvement Prize: Most improved player (player whose rating improved the most during the tournament due to self pairing events). Games played on Monday may not be processed in time for this award.

Prolific Prize Played most games in this event.

Teacher Prize To the player who played the most teaching games (games as white with handicap)

Hints:
?You will get more points if you win with less handicap than the true difference in strength. So, for example, if the rating difference is say 250 points and you are black it is better to win with a two stone handicap rather than a three stone handicap.

?If you lose with white and the rating difference is greater than 300 ponts your rating will not be affected. ie. You will not be dragged down by weaker players who are getting stronger faster than their rating can keep up.
