.Canadian Open - Open Section

This is the main event to determine the Canadian Open Champion and also the representative for Canada in the World amateur competition in Japan (expenses paid). The Canadian representative must be a Canadian citizen so that person will be determined by the player with the higest score. There will be no games between entries in this section and players in lower sections.

Top Seeds - Ge Yongfei,  8 dan

Jing Yang,   7 dan (Canadian Champion - 2005)

Here is what Xenos Kahn reported.

Ge Yongfei second in the Ing cup:

First, I would like to mention the exceptional performance of Ge Yongfei in this years Ing Cup. After taking the early lead in the final game to decide the winner,  he unfortunately  made an uncharacteristic slip which enabled Chen Zhao Nian (a.k.a. Darkmage on KGS) to fly away with the lead at the last minute. Still, second place in the Ing Cup is probably the best result ever by a Canadian citizen. He will be seeded in next year, allowing three Canadians to be present next year (two chosen and one seeded). Once again congrats.
